Description
The report examines whether occupations more exposed to artificial intelligence (AI) in Australia have grown more slowly than other occupations in the period since ChatGPT was introduced in November 2022. It also examines a range of labour market indicators to see whether there are signs of AI-related disruption. The report sets up a framework that could be used for ongoing monitoring.
Key findings
- AI is not causing broad disruption to Australia’s labour market.
- Evidence does not show that AI is causing large scale job loss in Australia.
- It found no significant impact on overall employment growth and no major shifts in the types of jobs across occupations.
- Jobs growth for young people and graduates, often seen as most at risk from automation, remained resilient post generative AI.
- However, jobs more exposed to AI, such as clerical and administrative roles, are growing more slowly than those less exposed.
