Description
We've heard a lot about the high rate of Indigenous incarceration in Australia in recent times, but there's another group in society who are also getting locked up at an alarming rate: returned servicemen.
Australian veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq are experiencing high rates of homelessness, family breakdowns, and, most tragically, suicide. They are issues that the newly elected President of the RSL, Rod White, is hoping to address.
As a Vietnam War veteran himself, Rod says improving the job prospects for returned servicemen will be key. He's calling for employers to reserve jobs for former soldiers, in the same way that they would advertise positions targeting other disadvantaged groups.
