Australian vocational education and training statistics: Students and courses 2005 - Preliminary dataPreliminary data from the annual collection of student enrolments relating to the public vocational education and training system show that more than 1.64 million students undertook publicly funded training in 2005, an increase of 2.9 per cent or 46,000 students compared with 2004. Student numbers increased in all states and territories, except Victoria which showed a decrease of 4.5 per cent. The largest increases occurred in New South Wales (8.6 per cent) and the Northern Territory (8.2 per cent). Comparing 2005 with 2004, total subject enrolments increased by 2.9 per cent and total hours of delivery increased by 3.9 per cent. NCVER will release the final data and more detail about the annual VET statistics on 3 July 2006.
