The ninety participants included community representatives, development practitioners, academics and government representatives.

The forum explored successful community-led development processes around Australia, where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and their partners are putting principles of effective development into practice and achieving outcomes.

Some of the major themes that emerged included:

  • Models for engaging with remote communities
  • Flexible project design and action learning
  • Developmental assessment, monitoring and evaluation tools
  • Extended Project timeframes
  • Systemic change
  • Communities of practice

This report documents forum outcomes and learnings that can inform other engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities throughout Australia.
