Description

The Climate Institute has commissioned leading risk analysts, Climate Risk, and energy statisticians, Energy Strategies, to assess the impact of the climate policies announced by each of the major parties. As a baseline against which to judge the impact of polices, The Climate Policy Analysis Tool uses Australian Government projections of future greenhouse emissions after the effect of policies announced up to December 2006. In addition the impact of state government policies after this point have also been included. Only policies with sufficient detail to 2020 are assessed. Both major parties have committed to establishing emissions trading schemes with the ALP having set an overall target of reducing emissions by 60% from 2000 to 2050. However, as at October 25, neither party has revealed short or medium term emission reduction targets to reliably assess performance of such schemes. Other assumptions can be found in Climate Risk’s Climate Policy Analysis Tool www.climateinstitute.org.au.
