The paper presents results from a survey of a nationally representative sample of 2,009 Australians about their level of home and contents insurance coverage. Almost one in five Australians admit their home is uninsured or underinsured, representing around 1.4 million homes at risk at a time of increasing natural disasters.

Restoring public sector capability through investment in public service employees
This paper examines the make-up of the Australian Public Service (APS) and considers recent efforts to improve APS service delivery. It concludes that recent investment in the employment of more APS employees has improved service delivery outcomes and that any reduction will reduce service delivery or result in the engagement of more consultants and contractors.

Wealth inequality by asset types: what’s driving wealth inequality
Wealth inequality over the past 20 years has progressively worsened in Australia. Australia’s wealth is now more unequally distributed than in the past. This paper examines the growth of Australian household wealth from 2002 to 2022 by asset. Tax concessions and the rapid growth in investment properties are found to have contributed to wealth inequality.

Cost-of-living and the climate crisis
The report finds direct connections between the climate crisis and rising cost-of-living pressures. It posits that failure to lower emissions now will only aggravate the crisis, with each moment of inaction compounding the pressure on households. Three key areas are identified where the climate crisis is directly driving up costs: insurance, food and energy.

Democracy agenda for the 48th Parliament
The paper identifies 11 major reforms that would improve parliamentary debate, government accountability and openness, and the operation of integrity institutions. Three of the reforms would improve the deliberations of the 48th Parliament of Australia and make other reforms more achievable.
