This policy brief examines how Research Infrastructures (RIs) can move beyond serving specialist scientific communities to play a broader role in addressing major societal challenges. Drawing on lessons from the COVID-19 response, it highlights the untapped potential of RI ecosystems to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, support innovation and inform public policy.

With the expansion of the open data movement in recent years, the issues of data discovery and data reuse have received more attention from various stakeholders. This project report focuses on characterising the contexts of data discovery, both within and across disciplines, to inform the design and evaluation of data discovery services.

The terms ‘co-creation’, ‘co-design’ and ‘co-production’ have been used interchangeably to describe the development of initiatives involving multiple stakeholders. While commonalities exist across these concepts, they have essential distinctions for public health, particularly related to the role of stakeholders and the extent and timing of their engagement. This paper summarises these similarities and differences.
