This Final Report presents the findings of a research project commissioned by the Disability Policy and Research Working Group (DPRWG) to explore the barriers and obstacles impeding a person-centred approach to planning and private housing for people with disability.

Despite the plethora of rental research, a significant gap remains in understanding the relationship between rental housing and 'transport disadvantage'. This project analyses the changing spatial concentration of lower-income renter households in Melbourne and Sydney and connects this with changes in transport opportunity.

Residents in outer-metropolitan areas have lower average income, poorer health and educational outcomes, lower employment participation rates and higher levels of youth disengagement than residents in inner-city areas.

This report looks at trends in housing and housing assistance provided by governments in Australia in 2012-13. Summary

An increasing proportion of Australians are now renting privately, many for over 10 years or more. Long-term renters experience higher levels of housing stress and are less likely to feel part of the community.
