Racism & racial discrimination in Australian universities: report on the Racism@Uni survey
A presentation of 2025 survey results as part of a broader study into racism at Australian universities. The survey asked whether people had experienced racism. It asked about student and staff experiences of, and perceptions about, their university, their knowledge of policies to address racism, and whether they took precautionary actions to guard against racism.

Belonging in Australian democracy: a multicultural perspective
Policies and practices that advance belonging are key for building a successful multicultural democracy. This report presents key findings from a deliberative workshop designed to examine how multicultural Australians understand and experience belonging. The findings suggest several ways to strengthen a sense of belonging while underscoring its importance for social cohesion and democratic engagement.

The barometer is a survey of more than 520 young Australians aged 18–24 about their experiences with the economy, work, education, health and wellbeing, relationships and participation in civic life. Themes included the impact of technology, feelings of belonging and exclusion, financial security and the need for governments to offer more support.

Enhancing belonging for African diaspora students in Australia
Belonging is a critical aspect of young people’s educational experience. For African diaspora students in Australian schools, belonging is complex. This report presents findings from a teacher action research project. It highlights how belonging was understood and enacted within participating schools, the professional learning approaches used and the outcomes for students, teachers and school communities.

This study looks at the role of news media and media representation in fostering social participation and a sense of belonging among multilingual communities in Australia. It found that representation, both in news and in media more broadly, is linked to building a sense of belonging among multilingual audiences.
