The Safer Pathway program has only had a limited effect on the incidence of domestic violence (DV) in NSW, according to this report released by the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research.

This is the first evidence-based study of acquired brain injury and family violence in Australia. It identifies a strong association between brain injury and family violence, and significant gaps in service responses, ranging from lack of screening for brain injury, through to inadequate opportunities for effective rehabilitation, recovery and support.

Over the past twelve months, work has been underway across government and key sector representatives to progress the ambitious reforms recommended by the Royal Commission into Family Violence. The information in this document sets out some of the key achievements over the past year.

The Domestic Violence Unit (DVU) of Legal Aid NSW began delivering services in January 2016. This evaluation involved quantitative analysis of Legal Aid NSW administrative data, and interviews and focus groups with stakeholders. It examined key questions such as whether the DVU is reaching disadvantaged clients and delivering appropriate services.

Internationally, police services, as well as support agencies, deploy a variety of techniques and strategies to address domestic violence in LGBTI communities. Each of these services has their particular strengths and challenges, as explored throughout this report.
