The Energy Security Board (ESB) has provided advice to Ministers on reliability, affordability and meeting Australia's international commitments. This comes in response to the Australian Energy Market Operator’s recent report on the risks to reliability in the electricity market. Specifically advice on the changes needed to the National Electricity Market and legislative framework to ensure that the system provides reliable, secure and affordable electricity, and in particular, ensure that:

• the reliability of the system is maintained

• the emissions reduction required to meet Australia’s international commitments are achieved

• the above objectives are met at the lowest overall costs.
