Should Australian political parties use data mining to access voter information?

British MP, Damian Collins, is calling on Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, to explain how tens of millions of Facebook user profiles ended up in the hands of a data mining consultancy.

The British firm, Cambridge Analytica, then allegedly used that information to profile and target voters to support President Donald Trump's 2016 election campaign and possibly influence last year's vote in favour of Brexit.

Revelations of mass data mining overseas have also sparked concerns among digital and civil rights groups here in Australia too.
