The U.S. goverrnment's global health policy architecture: structure, programs, and funding
This report provides an overview of the U.S. government’s global health architecture. It first defines U.S. global health policy and describes the multiple ways in which the U.S. government plays a role in global health.
It then provides a snapshot of U.S. global health funding, followed by descriptions of the main federal departments, agencies, and initiatives involved in global health, Congressional authorities and jurisdictions governing U.S. global health programs, and U.S. participation in international health organizations. Although this report focuses specifically on the U.S. government, it is important to acknowledge the important role played by private sector actors - non-governmental organizations, foundations, corporations, and others - in the global health response.
