Changes in Australia's industry structure: main cities 2001-06

Publisher
Economics Industries Australia
Description

This study analyses the shifting geography of employment and highlights the dynamics of industry structure in Australia's main cities between 2001 and 2006.

Between 2001 and 2006, the three industries with the highest average annual growth in employment were mining, government administration and defence, and construction. Output of most industries grew faster than the respective industry employment except for the mining, government administration and defence, and electricity, gas and water supply industries. The industry structure of the main cities was relatively stable, evolving slowly during the period.
