During the period 1901 to 2016 there have been 45 general elections for the House of Representatives and 43 Senate elections. This paper contains a brief commentary on each election along with statistical summary information and results for each state and territory at each election.

This paper provides updates for the Senate tables affected by the special counts in New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia and Tasmania in late 2017, and South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory in early 2018. This publication replaces the previously published Federal Election Results 1901 - 2016: Reissue paper (which had incorporated the special counts in South Australia and Western Australia in early 2017).
