In 2015 Mount Alexander Shire Council assisted a pre-feasibility study led by the Mount Alexander Sustainability Group that investigated bio-energy opportunities across Castlemaine. The 2015 pre-feasibility study confirmed the scale, quality and volume of several waste streams as being suitable for anerobic digestion. The current stage of this collaborative project with the Mount Alexander Sustainability Group, Coliban Water and Dons Smallgoods is to undertake a detailed feasibility study for an anerobic digester.

Outcome

• The project has allowed Council to build stronger relationships with the project partners and to develop strong project governance arrangements.
