Description
The Human Rights Act 1993 prohibits speech that incites racial disharmony and prohibits discrimination against a person because of an aspect of their identity. Following a review by the Ministry of Justice and the recommendations of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the terrorist attack in Christchurch on 15 March 2019, the Government is proposing changes to strengthen and clarify these protections. The Government is also proposing two further legislative changes to discrimination provisions more broadly. This document provides an opportunity for people to provide feedback on these proposals and suggestions for improvements.
