This strategy aims aims to provide the department with better access to timely, high quality data, making for better decisions and helping realise their vision of connecting Australians, enriching communities and empowering regions.

The strategy identifies three strategic objectives that go to embedding best practice data governance and management, having the right ICT platforms and tools, and growing the data culture and capability. It commits to actions to achieve these objectives. Among these, the department will update and improve their data asset register, further develop RADAR – Ready Access to Data, Analytics and Reporting - as their enterprise data management system, and strengthen data skills across the organisation.
