Description

The Australian Government has released for discussion this outline of their migration strategy. The document, informed by the Migration Review and stakeholder consultation, articulates the proposed policy shifts needed to reform the nation's migration system.

The government is considering three critical policy shifts to reform our migration system:

  1. Prioritising the people we need to enhance our security and economic prosperity
  2. Making it simple for migrants and efficient for employers
  3. Delivering outcomes for Australia and migrants post-arrival

The federal government is initially focussing on reforms to the skilled migration system. As expressed in this document, proposed reform of other migration programs are expected to be addressed through separate measures.
