Description
The Australian government has released the Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) implementation plan to ensure the scheme continues to help the nation reach net zero by 2050.
Funding was allocated in the 2023-24 Australian Budget to design, implement actions, and consult with stakeholders on priority reforms to the ACCU scheme.
The reforms are in response to the recommendations of the independent panel which reviewed the integrity of Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs). In January 2023, the government accepted all 16 recommendations in principle from the review.
The implementation plan sets out the timing and approach to implementing the recommendations.
