Description
The Australian Government has commissioned a strategic examination of Australia’s research and development (R&D) system. An independent expert panel are exploring how Australia can encourage more home-grown ideas, research and translation. This discussion paper has been developed to support advice and inform potential strategies to optimise Australia’s R&D system.
The strategic examination will consider recent and ongoing reviews commissioned by Australian Governments relating to Australia’s research, innovation and productivity performance including the Australian Universities Accord and the National Science and Research Priorities.

- Strengthen linkages between research and industry.
- Support the achievement of national priorities.
- Drive greater R&D investment by industry and boost innovation.
- Uplift Australia’s overall R&D intensity.
- Recent and ongoing reviews by Australian governments around research, innovation and productivity performance.
- First Nations knowledge, knowledge systems and leadership.
