The Strategy outlines the Northern Territory Police Force's priorities and commitments for addressing and preventing racism across the agency. It outlines priority reform areas and the commitments to be delivered by 2027. The strategy sets out the mission, vision, priority statements and outcomes. The strategy is accompanied by an action plan.
The Northern Territory Police Force commits, in partnership with Aboriginal Territorians to:
- serve and protect
- eliminate racism
- represent and reflect our Territory
- be accountable.
Key commitments
- Deliver a stable, trusted and professional policing presence for all Territorians that serves and protects Aboriginal Territorians with respect and empathy.
- Empower Aboriginal communities to address and reduce crime.
- Prioritise engagement first and enforcement second to deliver on community policing.
- Deliver anti-racism training to all employees.
- Create, strengthen and maintain a workplace that is safe and inclusive especially for Aboriginal employees.
- Implement intergenerational trauma informed practices into our workforce.
- Facilitate opportunities for Aboriginal Territorians to provide feedback on our police force embed anti-racism principles into our decision making.
