Description
This article examines the 2023 Independent Review of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), assessing how processes, recommendations and actions considered regional, rural and remote (RRR) contexts. Findings show the Review insufficiently addressed RRR needs. The article offers recommendations to guide policymakers toward a more inclusive disability policy.
Key recommendations
- Actively engage RRR people with disability.
- Integrate RRR‑specific service concepts.
- Build inclusive governance structures.
- Ensure RRR people with disability are represented in national committees shaping policy, practice and research.
- Sustainably train, recruit and retain local disability workers.
- Prioritise the lived experiences of RRR communities to deliver relevant recommendations.
