Description
A study conducted to better understand teenagers’ use of social media, the internet and artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots based on an online survey of 1,458 United States of America (US) teenagers from September to October 2025. The report presents which online platforms teenagers use, online platform use by demographic groups, frequency of online platform use, use of AI chatbots and internet use.
Key findings
- Roughly 1 in 5 US teenagers say they are on TikTok and YouTube almost constantly. At the same time, 64% of teenagers say they use chatbots, including about 3 in 10 who do so daily.
- YouTube stands out for being used by nearly all teenagers. Roughly 9 in 10 report ever using it.
- WhatsApp is one platform that stands out for its growth in recent years.
- X and Facebook have declined in use over the past decade.
- Teen use of some online platforms varies by age, race and ethnicity, and gender.
- 4 in 10 teenagers say they’re online ‘almost constantly,’ up from 24% a decade ago.
