Building digital resilience: girls and young women demand a safer digital future
This report makes the case that safety in online spaces is a human right as well as a gender equality issue and that ensuring the online safety of children and young people, in all their diversity, is a shared responsibility between governments, policy makers, civil society institutions, parents, guardians, and the wider community at local, national, and global levels.
The internet plays an increasingly central part in all our lives, yet there are significant gaps in the actions taken by the different authorities, including governments and social media platforms, at global, national and local levels, to help keep girls and young women safe online.
The purpose of this report was to give young women and girls an opportunity to not only talk about their digital lives but also share what they believe is needed for a safer digital future. Hear directly from young women and girls about the harms they face online, how they protect themselves and how tech companies, governments, local communities and their own families should play their part in keeping them safe.
