Description
The report on government services (RoGS) provides information on the equity, effectiveness and efficiency of government services in Australia. This report provides performance reporting for early childhood education and care (ECEC), school education, and vocational education and training. It includes a summary of government expenditure in the sector.
The report is provided with data tables and a guide on how to find what you need in RoGS.
Key findings
- Total government recurrent expenditure for ECEC, school education and VET services for the latest years covered in this report was $120.3 billion.
- The rate of serious incidents reported in the National Quality Framework (NQF) approved early childhood education and care services reached a new high in 2024.
- ‘Staff quality’ in ECEC (which measures the qualifications and experience of staff) has decreased since the previous workforce census in 2021.
- Nationally in 2025, the attendance rate for all school students for Years 7–10 was 86%, a decrease since 2018.
- Government-funded VET qualification completions have risen since 2020.
