This report evaluates six First Nations health programs designed to improve access to care in rural, regional and remote areas. It finds the programs are generally effective and outlines recommendations for improvement. The report details the evaluation’s objectives, methods and findings, offering further suggestions for program improvement and broader system change.
The evaluation examines the delivery, efficiency and effectiveness of the outreach programs, the coordination of activities across programs, and the extent to which these initiatives achieved their intended outcomes. The outreach programs evaluated included the Medical Outreach Indigenous Chronic Disease Program, the Rural Health Outreach Fund, the Visiting Optometrists Scheme, the Eye and Ear Surgical Support Scheme, Healthy Ears – Better Hearing, Better Listening, and Heart of Australia.
