From sorry to action: a plan to act on Bringing them home (2026–2028)
The action plan sets out the policy gaps, priorities and tangible steps needed to advance long-standing recommendations from the 1997 Bringing them home report over the coming two years. It highlights the ongoing needs of Stolen Generations survivors across health, wellbeing, records access, redress, sector sustainability, education and research, that remain unmet three decades after they were called for.
Sorry to Action is a roadmap that outlines tangible actions governments and stakeholders can take to advance healing and justice. The plan asks for firm commitments by governments to specific actions and for progress to be demonstrated leading up to the 30th anniversary of the Bringing them home report in May 2027.
The action plan covers five key areas:
- health, social and emotional wellbeing, and ageing
- records, redress, and acknowledgements
- education, research, and data
- sector support and workforce development
- governance and accountability.
