Description
This report aims to stimulate and initiate a new wave of industry engagement by evaluating the current state of electricity grid transition. The report focuses specifically on transition in the National Electricity Market and associated grid. It informs a program of work for 2026 including five Grid Transition Masterclasses and a Consumer Grid Summit.
Key findings
- The National Electricity Market and associated electricity grid is in a state of profound but uneven transition.
- The sector lacks a shared, whole-of-system vision for the future.
- Current industry scenarios contain critical blind spots.
- A "fairness gap" is emerging, threatening a Just Transition.
- There are deficits of Anticipatory Governance and Futures Literacy.
To address these challenges and unlock a resilient future grid, the report proposes a participatory foresighting program governed by eight core design principles.
