The impact of Commonwealth Rent Assistance on low-income privately renting parents and children
This research looked at how Commonwealth Rent Assistance (CRA) – the most expensive demand-side housing support program in Australia – affects low-income families who rent privately. This research helps to understand how effective CRA is at reducing disadvantage and improving wellbeing. It also shows how these effects pass to children of households that receive CRA.

Small-area analysis and projections of social housing change
This report explores concentrations and density of social housing relative to local amenities and services across Australia – providing an overview of the distribution, access and value of social housing stock. The research also developed an Amenity Index. The research demonstrates the need for more social housing with good access to local amenities.

Inquiry into housing policy and disaster: better coordinating actors, responses and data
The coordination and integration of housing policy and settlement planning with disaster prevention, preparedness, response and recovery is essential. This final report finds that climate-related disasters in Australia are set to increase. To keep up, policies, practices and priorities must be better coordinated to meet both short- and long-term needs.

Homelessness as a public health emergency: learnings from crisis
This research looks at public health responses to homelessness during the COVID emergency in Australia. It identifies barriers, adaptations and lessons learned from increased teamwork between public health and homelessness sectors. It investigates how these partnerships formed and how they can continue with ongoing adequate funding, staffing and logistical support.

Inquiry into socially supported housing pathways
Demand for social housing is outstripping supply. In addition to highlighting the urgency for more social housing, this research suggests governments could re-imagine the social housing system and transform social housing assistance. The research looked at how to change Australia's system into one that supports 'housing pathways'; how households move between different tenancies and tenures.
