The transition to school is a pivotal life stage for both children and their families, and a significant event for educators. This Evidence to Action Note outlines the key findings a recent school readiness rapid review.

This report details the findings of two rapid evidence reviews undertaken by Western Sydney University in 2021 to build the body of evidence about reducing harm and/or maltreatment for vulnerable children aged 0-5 years and improving school readiness for vulnerable children under six years of age.

The Department of Communities and Justice (NSW) commissioned the Centre for Social Impact to conduct this evidence review, which examines what community engagement or community development theories, practices and activities have been found to contribute to community wellbeing for vulnerable children, young people and families.

The Safe and Supported: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander First Action Plan 2023-2026 will focus on achieving safety and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. It was developed in partnership with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Leadership Group.

This report finds that young people are having to leave child protection and youth justice systems without adequate preparation for life and are disproportionately over-represented amongst Australia’s homeless population.
