The problem examined in this Decision Regulation Impact Statement (D-RIS) is that more could be done to better support services to protect children attending an education and care service, with a focus on improving child safety. Several policy options have been identified in the D-RIS, including regulatory and non-regulatory approaches, to improve child safety.

The report uses three examples – childhood poverty, preventable disease and chemical contamination – to illustrate the extent of avoidable spending, and make the fiscal case for tackling issues as early as possible.

Out-of-home care costs and pricing: draft report
This report sets out draft decisions, findings and recommendations from a review of the cost of delivering out-of-home care and the pricing arrangements with non-government providers who deliver care under contract with the NSW Government. It recommends a simplified approach to pricing, increased financial support for carers and increased accountability across the system.
