Restorative justice and work‐related death

This research explored the question "Can restorative justice better heal bereaved families and workplace grief after a work-related death, and contribute to improved workplace safety?"

The research looked in depth at alternatives to the current method of handling deaths in the workplace which often include delays in proceedings, public disclosure of traumatic information, lack of information and significant trauma from involvement in the prosecution process and legal outcomes.

The research was carried out by consultant Dr. Derek Brookes who was employed by the Creative Ministries Network with funding from the Legal Services Board, Victoria.  The Creative Ministries Network conducts a program called "Work-related Grief Support" which is an outreach service for family members who have lost a loved one through a work-related incident, illness or suicide.  The research grew out of, and was informed by, the CMN's experience of working with bereaved families.
 
The two final reports were launched by the Parliamentary Secretary Brian Tee, on Wednesday 19 August 2009, making the following set of three resources;
