Emerging roles
The report uses online job advertisement data and other sources to identify 37 emerging roles in the Australian labour market, across four areas: net zero, health, care and medical, data and technologies and science and engineering. The report provides a detailed analysis of the skills required for these roles and their projected growth in the coming years.
These roles are distinct from existing occupations, often requiring new or specialised skills and reflecting changes in technology, industry practices, and societal needs.
The report also examines the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the labour market, finding that while the overall demand for AI skills has remained relatively modest, specific occupations are experiencing rapid growth in AI-related job advertisements.
The report concludes by emphasising the importance of understanding emerging roles and their skill requirements to shape education and training systems to meet future workforce needs.
