The number of new dwellings consented to in New Zealand is at its highest level since August 2007, according to this report.

Key facts

In June 2014, building consents were issued for:

  • 1,950 new dwellings, including apartments
  • 197 apartments, including 61 retirement village units
  • 1,753 non-apartment dwellings.

The seasonally adjusted number of new dwellings consented, excluding apartments, rose 2.9 percent.

The trend for the number of new dwellings, excluding apartments, is at its highest level since November 2007, and is 88 percent higher than the most-recent low point in March 2011. However, it is still 20 percent below the series peak in September 2003.
