This chapter reports on the performance of governments in providing child protection, out-of-home care, family support services and intensive family support services.

Already ten times more likely to be living in out-of-home care than non-Indigenous kids, this report argues that the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in care is predicted to triple over the next twenty years unless urgent action is taken.

This exploratory research project was designed to better understand the safety of children/young people in care in New Zealand. It looked at the case files of 698 children and young people in care during 2015/16 and found 85 experienced harm.
