Description

Most of the existing evidence and primary prevention efforts in Australia are focused on intimate partner violence and sexual violence, perpetrated by men against women. The Equality Institute was commissioned by the Victorian Government to conduct a comprehensive literature review and analysis on different manifestations of family violence, and on proven and promising practices for primary prevention.

This brief provides a summary of the current evidence on the intersections of the different factors that underpin family violence among different communities or cohorts in Australia:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Older people
  • Culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex communities
  • Male victims
  • Rural, regional and remote communities
  • People with disabilities
  • Women in the sex industry
  • Women in prison
  • Children
  • Faith communities.
