Description
This paper provides an overview of the Environment Legislation Amendment (Circular Economy and Other Matters) Bill 2022 by exploring Victoria’s transition to a circular economy and recent legislative changes to the waste and recycling sector.
As the Bill introduces a new waste to energy (WTE) scheme, the advantages and disadvantages of thermal WTE technologies and political party responses are also considered. Finally, Australia’s international waste-obligations and relevant legislation and waste sector developments in other Australian jurisdictions are also summarised.
