Face Forward: monthly intelligence report – June 2026
Face Forward is a non-partisan, research-driven initiative that provides free real-time protection from technology-facilitated gender-based violence for women and gender-diverse people in public life across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. The second Face Forward Intelligence Report marks a significant expansion of the initiative, with participation nearly doubling in June and comment volume growing by 380%. Across 57,219 comments, Areto auto-removed 20,992 harmful comments — saving an estimated 350 hours of staff time.
The patterns established in May deepened in June. Facebook continues to drive 92% of all comments and 96% of all harmful content. Identity-based abuse — racist, xenophobic, Islamophobic, sexist, and gender-targeted — remains the defining characteristic of the most severe hostility, with some participants seeing abuse rates above 90% of all comments directed at them.
June also surfaced a concentrated, targeted attack on a single participant's Facebook content in mid-June.
