This research provides a new national evidence-base on pathways into, within, and out of social housing tenancies to assist understanding of entry and exit patterns, and housing and non-housing outcomes.

The Victorian government funded Aboriginal Housing Victoria to develop this framework, which aims to build a new approach to ensuring all Aboriginal Victorians have safe, secure and stable housing.

It is hoped that this national study that will develop a clearer understanding of the relationships between the housing and mental health pathways of people with mental health issues, in order to identify potential points of practical intervention and key issues for system improvement.

This research examined the extent to which downsizing forms part of older Australians’ housing preferences, the actual and perceived benefits of moving as well as the availability of downsize housing options. The research proposes a number of policy strategies for delivering housing alternatives to meet older Australians’ downsizing aspirations.

Australia’s social housing system is under considerable pressure, with high demand, but manifestly inadequate supply. In this context, governments have introduced ‘pathways’ frameworks to promote movement through the social housing system. This report explores tenants’ experiences and perspectives on these social housing pathways.
