This e-brief investigates the issue of Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) in the context of housing and homelessness.

People from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds comprise an increasingly significant proportion of the population living in Australia, and yet their visibility and needs are not adequately reflected in our homelessness service system. This report was developed to explore and present further research on the CaLD homelessness population.

Tiny houses offer some potential to improve housing choice for those who can afford the upfront cost, may offer low impact urban densification option and can foster more sustainable behaviours. This potential will however, not be achieved unless local and state governments regulate tiny houses as a lawful dwelling type.

This study investigated the issues affecting older Australians who are facing homelessness, including the capacity to access Specialist Homeless Services and other government supports, and potential ways to escape homelessness for older people. The research also considers appropriate, successful international practices for older people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

This document sits under the Western Australian Alliance to End Homelessness's 10 year strategy to end homelessness, and aims to galvanise the community to carry out the collective action needed to improve outcomes for young people currently experiencing homelessness and to prevent it for future generations.
