Strategy
Description
The Australian Government has set a national target to reduce emissions by 62–70% below 2005 levels by 2035. The net zero plan provides a pathway to achieve the 2035 target on the way to net zero by 2050. The report is focused on five decarbonisation priorities:
- clean electricity across the economy
- lowering emissions by electrification and efficiency
- expanding clean fuel use
- accelerating new technologies
- net carbon removals scaled up.
Report structure
- Part 1 – climate change in Australia
- Part 2 – Australia’s net zero pathway
- Part 3 – enabling the transition
- Part 4 – working together
The plan is supported by treasury modelling and analysis, and six sector emissions reduction plans. The sector plans provide a more detailed picture of the emission reduction opportunities.
