Strategy
Description

The Australian Government has set a national target to reduce emissions by 62–70% below 2005 levels by 2035. The net zero plan provides a pathway to achieve the 2035 target on the way to net zero by 2050. The report is focused on five decarbonisation priorities:

  • clean electricity across the economy
  • lowering emissions by electrification and efficiency
  • expanding clean fuel use
  • accelerating new technologies
  • net carbon removals scaled up.

Report structure

  • Part 1 – climate change in Australia
  • Part 2 – Australia’s net zero pathway
  • Part 3 – enabling the transition
  • Part 4 – working together

The plan is supported by treasury modelling and analysis, and six sector emissions reduction plans. The sector plans provide a more detailed picture of the emission reduction opportunities.

  1. Electricity and energy sector plan
  2. Agriculture and land sector plan
  3. Built environment sector plan
  4. Industry sector plan
  5. Resources sector plan
  6. Transport sector plan.
