Understanding the extent of EV use within the next five to ten years can assist to understand the likely level of provision of charging stations and to support efforts to optimise the distribution of such facilities, particularly within cities where uptake is likely to be concentrated. Furthermore there is benefit in understanding the socioeconomic and spatial factors that contribute to greater or lesser EV uptake. This information may assist with policy refinement to address uptake barriers faced by particular groups as well as understand equity and distributional issues.
This report contributes to the task of improving knowledge of electric vehicle (EV) uptake in Australia by providing ongoing results from exploratory research into EV spatial demand using Melbourne as a case study.
