The Australian Government released a plan in November 2023 called the Net Zero in Government Operations Strategy. This plan explains how Commonwealth entities can help reach the Australian Public Service (APS) Net Zero 2030 target. The plan doesn't set a specific target but includes actions to help reduce emissions by avoiding waste and using resources more efficiently. 

Key priorities

To support a pathway to net zero the Plan has three categories:

• Net Zero Buildings
• Net Zero Energy
• Net Zero Fleet  

Further detail in the plan includes:

• Improving building standards in line with the relevant National Australian Built Environment Rating Scheme rates as required by the Net Zero in Government Operations Strategy
• Procuring renewable electricity through the whole of Australian Government electricity arrangement
• Consolidate offices where applicable to the Treasury’s operations
• Transitioning the fleet vehicles to low emission vehicles.
