Guide
Description

A resource to assist organisations to embed the Child Safe Standards and the Universal Principle into their policies and practices to meet obligations under the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024.

The guidelines are part of the Commission's work to help make organisations safer for children. They are designed to help everyone, who works with children or provides spaces for them, to understand their role and how they can contribute to keeping children safe. They include practical advice, examples and minimum requirements to help build a strong culture of safety and wellbeing. They encourage organisations to think about how their day-to-day work protects children’s rights and safety.

The Universal Principal requires child safe entities to provide an environment that promotes and upholds the right to cultural safety of children who are Aboriginal persons or Torres Strait Islander persons.

The guidelines outline:

  • the 10 Child Safe Standards and the Universal Principle
  • how these work in practice
  • how policies and processes should look once implemented
  • the documents and actions needed to demonstrate compliance with the new laws.
