Report
Description
The report shows the ways Australian adults connect and interact in 2025, and how this has changed over the past nine years. It focuses on how they use phone services and apps for calls and messages, and the ways they use communications and social media sites and apps.
Key findings
- Mobile phones remained the primary way Australians communicated in 2025, with almost all Australian adults using them for calls or text messages.
- Facebook was still the most widely used platform in 2025, followed by YouTube and Facebook Messenger.
- Platforms that experienced growth in 2025 were Instagram, TikTok and Reddit.
- Household landline use continued its long-term decline. Only 12% of Australian adults used a landline phone in 2025.
- Communication preferences varied by location. Australian adults in regional areas were more likely to use a landline for calls than those in metropolitan areas.
The report is accompanied by data tables and an interactive report.
