This paper asserts that comparing the features of existing state integrity commissions with the models proposed by the federal government, the ALP and Helen Haines, the Morrison Government’s Commonwealth Integrity Commission (CIC) would be the weakest and least effective integrity agency in the country.

The National Deaths in Custody Program has monitored the extent and nature of deaths occurring in prison, police custody and youth detention in Australia since 1980. In 2019-20 there were 113 deaths in custody. This report contains detailed information on these deaths and compares the findings to longer term trends.

This paper argues that regulations that authorise and monitor the use of restrictive practices should encourage minimal usage of restrictive practices, provide conditions for their use, include safeguards and protections for those people on whom they are used, and contain clear guidance for those who use them.

This report proposes a legal framework to make New Zealand accessible for and remove barriers that create disabling experiences. A quarter of New Zealanders experience disability and everyone will have an impairment at some point.

This report finds that much work remains to be done to address significant gaps in corporate accountability for adverse human rights impacts, to ensure victims have access to remedy, and to operationalise the business ‘responsibility to respect’ human rights in Australia.
